New York lawmakers passed a bill Thursday that temporailly extends the age limit for firefighter applicants who took a controversial 2007 exam, according to The Daily News.

By upping the age from 29 to 35, applicants now older than the original limit will remain eligible for a the new exam.

The FDNY plans to begin accepting application starting on July 1, the report said.

The results from the 2007 test were invalidated by a federal judge who ruled it discriminated against minority candidates.

"This rectified a wrong that the court inadvertently created," Council Speaker Christine Quinn said.
