VACAVILLE, Calif. --

A grass fire charred about 200 acres near Vacaville, sending smoke over the west end of the city.

The six-alarm blaze, which was said to be 50 percent contained, broke out in a rural area near the intersection of I-80 and Cherry Glen Road.

I-80 remained open, but the Cherry Glen Road exit was closed.

Southwest winds were blowing at 10 to 15 mph, and fire officials were worried that winds may pick up later in the day.

Fire crews were working to protect structures near the fire, but no homes were in immediate danger.
