BLANCO, Texas --

Two teenage volunteer firefighters have been arrested and charged with draining the Blanco city water supply.

Dustin Garrett, 19, and Stephen Howells, 18, are charged with felony criminal mischief for opening up two fire hydrants and draining about 200,000 gallons of water from the city's supply, police said. Garrett had been fired by the department earlier in the week, police said.

The loss of water prompted Blanco's fire marshall to ban the use of fireworks over Independence Day weekend. Both men were arrested, but Howells has since been released on bond. Garrett remains jailed in lieu of $100,000 bond.
