CHARLOTTE, N.C. --
Over 60 firefighters worked overnight to put out a two-alarm fire at a tire manufacturing plant in Charlotte. It started about 12:15 a.m. at Continental General Tire in southwest Charlotte.
Investigators say the fire started in a machine that mixes rubber. The fire spread through a chute in the production area, creating thick smoke.
No one was hurt, but the smoke was so thick that third-shift employees were sent home early.
The plant re-opened for first shift Monday morning.
The fire caused over $100,000 in damage.
