CHARLOTTE, N.C. --

Rescue crews are lowering a construction worker on a backboard to the ground from the top of an uptown Charlotte crane.

Fire Capt. Mark Basnight said the crane operator experienced a medical emergency so crews had to go in to perform a high-angle rescue at the corner of Trade and College streets.

The operator was working on the Ritz Carlton hotel site. He was about 300 feet in the air when the medical emergency happened.
