Two firefighters on their way to a fire scene were injured on the city's east side.

Deputies say they were turning onto Alsace Place from 38th Street Sunday morning when they collided with a car driven by 25-year-old Jeffery Thompson.

"The passenger actually stated to us, that yes they did see the light they actually tried to beat the emergency vehicle," Captain Phil Burton with the Marion County Sheriff's Department told 24-Hour News 8. "We do suspect alcohol because there was some alcohol bottles found in the vehicle he smelled of alcohol. We did a search warrant we actually have blood but those results are not in yet."
