(West Village-WABC, September 6, 2005) - An underground transformer fire closed a Greenwich Village intersection this morning.
Eyewitness News has learned the fire broke out under a crane at Sixth Avenue and 13th Street just after 7:30 a.m. The intersection was closed as authorities attempted to put out the blaze.
Smoke was reported in the 14th Street subway station, but it was not closed. Two dozen patients from a nearby dialysis center were briefly evacuated.
