Two firefighters were injured while battling a fire at a home on the city's east side Thursday morning.
The fire broke out at a home on Kimball Place at East Mound Street shortly before 2 a.m., NBC 4
When fire crews arrived, the first floor was fully engulfed in flames, and the second floor was nearly burned up, officials said.
"With that much fire, we lost the stability of the building. We lost a lot of the floor. We couldn't walk on (it)," said Columbus Division of Fire Battalion Chief Michael Fowler.
The heavy fire took a toll on fire crews, as well.
"We had two firemen, one with light burns, that were taken to the hospital to get checked," Fowler said. "We had one fireman who went through the floor and possibly twisted his back. Very minor injuries."
Arson investigators were called to the vacant home, saying they believe the fire was purposely set.
No other injuries were reported.
