COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A cigarette sparked a house fire here that killed two men earlier this week, a Columbia Fire Department investigation showed.

Alton Eugene Harvey, 73, and David Patrick Haynes, 38, died of smoke inhalation in the fire in Harvey's home Monday morning.

The cigarette set a couch on fire in a back room, Deputy Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins said Wednesday.

Both men were found in the living room in the front of the house.

The house had no smoke detectors, Jenkins said.
