A late-night fire Monday at North East Mall damaged a clothing store and caused smoke damage to other shops, but no injuries were reported, officials said Tuesday.

The blaze was reported in a storage area of the Hollister Co. and was contained to that area because a sprinkler system was activated, said Jeff Jones, a Hurst assistant city manager.

The fire was almost extinguished when firefighters arrived about 11:30 p.m., but firefighters from Euless, Bedford, Richland Hills, North Richland Hills and Dallas/Fort Worth Airport were on the scene to help ventilate the mall, at 1101 Melbourne Road.

The fire's cause was under investigation Thursday, and a damage estimate was not available, officials said.

Two other stores sustained water damage in the fire, said Hurst Assistant Fire Chief David Palla.

"Several managers were checking on their stores shortly after the fire," Jones said.

Mall officials referred all questions to Hurst fire officials. The mall was open Tuesday.
