Residents of a northwest Houston apartment complex were forced to leave their homes behind Monday night because of a fire, KPRC Local 2 reported.
The apartment building on Ravenwood Circle and Spenwick Drive went up in flames at about 10:30 p.m.
Firefighters worked quickly to salvage the apartment building but four of the units were damaged.
"We've just put the fire out. I haven't had a chance to check on the working status of smoke detectors. We are going to be checking on them," Houston Fire Department Chief Terry Stone said.
One man, possibly a resident, was transported to a hospital. His condition was not released but Stone told KPRC Local 2 he had received some sort of laceration in the fire.
"I don't have the details on exactly where the patient was. They reported to us with some injuries and were taken to a hospital," Stone said.
Investigators said the fire was an accident and that no one was inside the apartment when it started.
Firefighters believe a flame from a cigarette, candle or incense sparked the blaze.
