Eyewitnesses said they heard an explosion. When they came outside to see what was going on they saw the mother of the three young children screaming for someone to call 911.
The fire happened upstairs on the second floor of the apartment building. One neighbor said he rushed into the apartment and came out because there was just too much smoke. But he went back inside because he said he knew there were three young children inside.
He said he was able to grab the five-year-old boy, and with the help of firefighters, the one of the four-year-old twin girls. She was fighting for her life at Arnold Palmer hospital Monday morning.
Her twin, Krystal Cain, did not make it out of the burning apartment.
State fire marshals and Daytona Beach police were investigating the scene Monday morning. No cause has been determined.
