B.C. Firefighters Rescue Boy, Dog From Cliff

A young boy -- stranded with his dog on a steep, rocky cliff near Deep Cove, B.C. -- was rescued by emergency personnel Tuesday.

The boy waited patiently on a narrow ledge approximately three meters below the edge for almost an hour.

Had the ledge not been there, the boy and the dog had nowhere to go but down.

His young companion, who called 9-1-1 on his cellphone, stood and watched helplessly only metres away during the rescue.

In a race against the setting sun, a firefighter rappeled down the slippery, moss-covered cliff and secured both the boy and the dog just minutes before darkness enveloped the area.

It is unclear who fell first, the boy or the dog, or whether one of them intentionally climbed down and found themselves unable to climb back up.
