Witnesses to a traffic accident rushed to lift a sports utility vehicle off a Huntsville firefighter, who was trapped and had quit breathing.
A spokesman for Huntsville Fire and Rescue says firefighter Matt Hill came out of the close call with only a chipped ankle.
The incident happened Sunday afternoon when firefighters were responding to a medical emergency in a bank parking lot. Another vehicle hit three firefighters. Two suffered minor injuries, but Hill was trapped under an SUV.
People from nearby businesses ran to help firefighters lift the SUV off of him. Hill was not breathing when he was rescued, but he was quickly revived and taken to Huntsville Hospital, where he was treated and released.
Fire and Rescue spokesman Jay Gates says the quick help from witnesses kept it from being tragic.
Gates says no charges will be filed against the driver.
