South Carolina Office Building Collapses

Firefighters said no one was inside the building at the time.

A building has collapsed in Chester, S.C.

Around 4 p.m. Tuesday the wall, roof and part of the front of the Old English District Office building fell, sending debris into the street in the area known as The Hill.

Those nearby said they heard a loud crashing sound and saw dust rolling down the street.

Firefighters said no one was inside the building at the time.

The main road past the building will be closed through the night to keep people safe from debris that could continue to fall off the remaining parts of the building.

Investigators said a building next to this office burned down several years ago, which may have weakened the wall facing it and leading to the collapse.
