A North Bend home at 428th Avenue Southeast was destroyed by fire Tuesday morning, reported KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

The fire started about 5 a.m. but firefighters had it under control by 7:30 a.m.

Firefighters said it was probably a wood-burning stove that sparked the fire.

The homeowner, Ralph Koplin, said he wasnt doing anything out of the ordinary and had burned fires for heat numerous times over the four decades hed lived there.

At the time of the fire, Koplin and his nephew were asleep in the living room. They didnt have power and were trying to stay warm by the wood-burning stove.

Koplin said around 5 a.m. he woke up, saw the glow of fire outside, and smelled smoke.

He got his nephew and two dogs out immediately, but by the time they were outside, the fire had engulfed the entire upper portion of the house.

A few minutes later, the roof caved in.

By daybreak, Koplin could see that the whole house was demolished.

Koplin said he has a mobile home and relatives nearby to help him while he figures out what to do next.

Authorities think the flames started as a chimney fire.
