Four people were taken to the hospital after a fire in their senior citizens high-rise building Monday morning.
The fire broke out at about 3 a.m. at the Prospect House at 245 South Prospect St. in Ravenna.
Three people were taken to Robinson Memorial Hospital. One was treated and released, another was admitted for smoke inhalation and the third was life-flighted to MetroHealth Medical Center for burns.
A fourth victim was taken Akron General Hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.
Nine fire departments responded to battle the blaze at the seven-story senior citizens home, including Ravenna, Ravenna Township, Mantua, Kent, Streetsboro, Charlestown, Brimfield, Edinburgh and Rootstown.
Officials said the fire was contained to one apartment on the second floor. However, smoke billowed throughout the complex.
Displaced residents were taken to Brown Middle School on West Main Street in Ravenna. Residents on the third through seventh floors are being allowed to return to their apartment.
Arson has been ruled out, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
