PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) -- A fire swept through a rooming house, killing two men and injuring two women, including one critically, officials said Tuesday.

A woman suffered smoke inhalation and burns during the Monday night blaze and was in critical condition at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, said Fire Chief Wilburt McAdams.

Another woman was being treated for minor injuries. One firefighter was slightly injured while putting out the blaze, McAdams said.

The victims' names were not immediately released.

The victims were the only people in the rooming house at the time of the fire, Sgt. Keith Batchelor said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation. McAdams said the room where the fire started did not have a working smoke detector.
