Federal Institute Issues 12 Recommendations From Its Rhode Island Nightclub Fire Probe

Federal fire safety experts investigating the deadly Station nightclub fire recommend requiring sprinklers in all nightclubs, and improving fire inspection programs to prevent a similar tragedy from happening again.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Federal fire safety experts investigating the deadly Station nightclub fire recommend requiring sprinklers in all nightclubs, and improving fire inspection programs to prevent a similar tragedy from happening again.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology on Thursday released the results of its two-year investigation into the fire, which killed 100 people and injured hundreds more. It called on organizations that develop fire safety codes to adopt its 12 recommendations.
