SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) -- A 16-year-old junior firefighter has admitted setting a blaze that left a woman and her 6-year-old son homeless.

Steven Hohman admitted in Family Court to arson and criminal mischief charges stemming from the Feb. 15 fire in South Williamsport, an official with the district attorney's office said Monday.

Hohman, the son of Citizens Fire Co. Chief Barry Hohman Jr., will appear before Judge William S. Kieser on April 7 for sentencing. He remains at the juvenile detention center in Wellsboro.

Hohman, who initially was credited with reporting the blaze, was arrested a week later.

Police said the teen threw a burning cigarette into a bush next to the house and watched it burn for at least 10 minutes before walking to his home nearby to tell his father.

No one was injured in the fire, which caused about $120,000 in damages.
