WASHINGTON (AP) -- Arson is being blamed for two fires at adjoining schools in Northeast Tuesday.

Two separate fires were set, one in a classroom at the Idea Public Charter School and the other in an office at the George Washington Carver School, both located at 1027 45th Street, Washington, D.C.

A spokesman for the District of Columbia Fire and Rescue services said the call for the report of a fire came in around 3 a.m. The building was vacant at the time and no one was hurt.

``The arson dog did not detect any flammable liquid in the building,'' said department spokesman Alan Etter. He added investigators suspect the fires were most likely started with a lighter or match igniting paper or other combustible materials.

Fire officials said the fires were not related to a serial arsonist who has been setting fires in the Washington area since March of last year.

Both schools were closed for the day.
