Manhole Fire Drives Some from New York City Apartments

Fifteen people in Soho couldn't spend the night at home because of a manhole fire.
(New York -WABC, February 4, 2005 ) -- Fifteen people in Soho couldn't spend the night at home because of a manhole fire.

Witnesses say it broke out around 1:00 a.m. Friday at 281 Lafayette Street in Manhattan between Prince and Houston streets.

Firefighters ordered everyone out of that building when they found elevated levels of carbon monoxide, as a result of the fire.

There's no word yet on what caused the fire.
