WEST WINDSOR - The "nothing showing" call crackled through the radios as fire engines roared toward a fire alarm on Hereford Drive.

Two full-time township firefighters had just finished a walk around the perimeter of the house and they saw no smoke or fire, so they called in the "nothing showing" as they have done hundreds of times before.

The county dispatch then ordered all responding volunteer firefighters and engines to slow their pace to the scene.
