Three hero firefighters knew they had so little time to rescue two kids trapped in a burning Bronx apartment that they ran through a wall of flames without a drop of water to fight the blaze, proud colleagues said yesterday.

"They went in with no protection," said Lt. Malachy Mulligan of Ladder Co. 46.

"A cop has his gun. That's his protection. We have a hose line."

Despite their incredible effort, both kids died.

Ladder Co. 46 arrived at the fire at 3034 Kingsbridge Terrace at about 7:45 a.m. Friday, but Engine Co. 81
