CANONSBURG, Pa. (AP) -- A 6-year-old girl and her uncle were killed in a fire in the girl's home early Friday, authorities said.

The girl's 9-year-old brother managed to escape the burning home in North Strabane Township, Washington County, and asked a neighbor to call for help, emergency officials said.

The dead were identified as James Albert Hines Jr., 45, of Washington, Pa. and Kelsey Nicole Hines, who lived in the house owned by her parents, Kevin and Heather Hines. James Hines was baby-sitting his brother and sister-in-law's children overnight when the fire was reported at 12:04 a.m., state police said.

A state police fire marshal determined the fire started accidentally, but gave no other details.

Some emergency workers were treated for smoke inhalation and one broke an ankle trying to save those inside.
