A man involved in an altercation with a Cheatham County paramedic has died.

Relatives of Fred Adams say he died Thursday night. EMS directors confirm that paramedic Donald Woods punched Adams on the way to the hospital last week, but he claims it was in self-defense. They say that Adams attacked Woods first. But Adams' brother says that is a lie.

Tony Adams said, "From the report it says he hit Fred one time, and he says his head may have rolled around and hit something inside the ambulance. I just don't buy that. It's fishy."

Woods was suspended with pay while the incident is under investigation.
