A Frederick County firefighter has been charged with sexual battery in Fairfax County because police and fire investigators say he sexually abused younger female volunteers while serving as a paramedic with the Fairfax County Fire Department.

Jeffrey Gay, 39, was arrested and charged June 8, according to Fairfax Police Department officer Bud Walker.

Gay is a full-time firefighter for the Frederick County Fire and Rescue Department, according to Barbara Whitlock, a Frederick County personnel technician.

Gay began working part time for Frederick County Fire and Rescue in December 1999, Whitlock said.

He became a full-time employee May 12 of this year, six days after he resigned from the Fairfax department, according to personnel information from both counties.

Frederick County Fire and Rescue Director Gary DeBrueler declined to comment on Gay
