New plans take into account building code violations by implimenting the combination of fire-retardant wood framing, enclosed behind brick walls and fire-resistant drywall and an extensive sprinkler system
With revised plans newly approved, the developer of a Virginia Commonwealth University student apartment building destroyed by fire in March has started rebuilding.
The new plans specify fire-retardant wood for the building's skeleton instead of the ordinary lumber that its designers originally specified, in violation of the state building code. The original plan had been approved by the city's building inspectors
