As fire chief for 11 years, his fellow brothers at the Lake Charles Fire Department remember Chief Algie Breaux as a man who rose to any occasion.

Algie Breaux walked humble footsteps. In a KPLC interview he once said, "I'm just a country boy at heart, raised on a rice farm and I'm very proud of that."

As fire chief for 11 years, his fellow brothers at the Lake Charles Fire Department remember a man who rose to any occasion. T.A. Jones says he found that out one night at a fire on Fitzenrider Road, "I was overcome by the heat and collapsed. When I collapsed, chief Breaux came in and said, get him out of there, I'll take the hose. I though that was great that he would take over the hose when I was having issues."

Byron Taylor grew up with "Chief" Breaux, "I remember he was retiring with the other men when I was coming on--they were making room for the new guys. Although he was gone and I hadn't seen him for years, he came into town to see if Doug Taylor's son, which was me, had made it."
