Four Fort Wayne firefighters were injured extinguishing a fire on Broadway early Wednesday.

The fire broke out in the rear of a house at 3223 Broadway, near Thompson Avenue, just before 2 a.m. The home sustained major damage throughout the structure, a fire department report said.

Firefighters rotated shifts to put out the large blaze throughout the morning, the report said.

Three firefighters suffered heat-related injuries, and one was taken to Parkview Hospital for treatment.

A fourth firefighter was taken to Parkview because of a traumatic injury.

The report did not specify what caused the fire. No additional information was available Wednesday.
