SALINAS, Calif. (AP) -- A raging fire that started Wednesday night at a packing plant caused millions of dollars of damage but did not injure any people.
The blaze started when waxed cardboard boxes used for produce at the Robert Mann Packing Inc. plant caught fire. Firefighters worked into the night to stop the fire from spreading. About 25 employees were in the building when the fire began but were evacuated safely.
``We don't know what caused the fire, but thankfully, no one was hurt,'' Steve Carroll, general manager at Mann Packing, told The Californian of Salinas.
The fire caused authorities to seal off the surrounding area and shut down part of Highway 101.
The blaze, which began around 6:30 p.m., caused more than $2 million in damage to the plant, the newspaper said.
