BOSTON (AP) -- Fire broke out in the press room of The Boston Globe, damaging some printing equipment. No injuries were reported, but the fire was expected to disrupt some deliveries of the newspaper's Wednesday's editions.

The fire broke out shortly before midnight Tuesday and burned for about an hour before it was brought under control, fire officials said. Plate glass windows were smashed to let smoke escape.

``There might be some people without the paper (Wednesday morning) and we ask them for understanding and patience,'' night city editor Gary Witherspoon said.

An overheated motor was the suspected cause.

Firefighters informed reporters in the newsroom, which is in a different location, that they ``had no cause for panic,'' Witherspoon said. However, the building was evacuated for about two hours.

Some of the printing work was transferred to a facility in Billerica, a Globe spokesman said. Some of the presses in the Globe plant were restarted about 5 a.m.

The Globe prints about 700,000 papers each morning. The paper stayed with one edition throughout the morning, instead of the usual three.
