KEARNY - A 68-year-old woman died after being pulled out of her burning home in a dramatic rescue effort by relatives and firefighters last week, officials said.

Three people, including the woman's husband's pregnant daughter and son-in-law, were hospitalized after the fire with burns and smoke inhalation, officials said.

Joan Stevenson was carried by Capt. Steve Dyl and Firefighter Steve Durnian from the burning home on Belgrove Drive on March 24 and medical technicians began working on her immediately. Resuscitation efforts continued aboard the ambulance to Clara Maass Medical Center, West Hudson Division, where she was pronounced dead, Dyl said.
