The fire at Advanced Petroleum LLC was first reported at 6:30 a.m. by an employee, who said that when he arrived at work Monday morning, he saw a broken window and flames coming from a building that is used to store petroleum products.
Firefighting crews from Evans, Milliken, Loveland and Johnstown worked to keep the petroleum tanks near the fire cool, hosing down the area and creating a dike to prevent the fire from reaching the tanks.
The plant, located in the heart of downtown Johnstown, is two blocks away from Main Street. Main Street and several side streets were closed for several hours as a precaution.
The streets were reopened after the fire was extinguished just after 9 a.m.
No injuries were reported. The cost of the damage has not been estimated but it appears that the storage building and everything inside it was destroyed, 7NEWS reported.
Advanced Petroleum LLC repackages petroleum products into smaller containers so they could be sold in the retail market.
