Fire Crews Battle Massive House Fire In Queens, New York

(Astoria-WABC, March 11, 2004) -- Fire officials are still on the scene of a massive house fire in Astoria, Queens.

Two people were injured in the fire that broke out around 6:45 a.m. this morning. The fire was at Hoyt Avenue near 31st Street in the Astoria section of Queens.

Before the fire department arrived on the scene, several police officers and civilians ran into the building looking for potential victims. There are currently two people being treated for injuries.

One of the people has been taken to Cornell Burn Unit while the other was treated at the scene of the fire.

Meanwhile, traffic is a mess coming off the Triboro Bridge. The Hoyt Avenue Exit is closed until further notice.
