An overnight explosion at a recycling plant in the Maspeth section of Queens has critically injured one person. The man injured in this explosion was a 40-year-old machine worker who was working inside the recycling center.

The roof just collapsed when this explosion happened and fire investigators are trying figure out what caused it. They say as they were walking around inside immediately after this explosion, it smelled like gas.

The explosion happened at New Style recycling corporation, where the building owners say the gas has been shut off for years. This is a puzzling investigation for the people on the scene.

The machine worker injured in this explosion burned over 50 percent of his body. He was rushed to the Cornell Burn Unit at New York Medical Center. He is in critical condition right now and when a group of truckers across the street actually saw the explosion happen, they immediately ran over as the building was still on fire to help this man out.

Anthony Mason, Eyewitness: "I heard a loud explosion and I thought two trucks crashed. I looked up and saw the debris then I saw someone inside. The man was on fire and I told him to keep rolling around. He was hurt bad. I hope he makes it."

The fire is now under control and firefighters are still on the scene.
