CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) -- An explosion at a chemical manufacturing plant Friday injured 14 workers, one critically.

The workers were being treated for chemical exposure, according to Rhode Island Hospital officials.

Thirteen were in fair condition and were expected to be treated and released. Details about the critically injured worker were not immediately available.

At least 100 people were evacuated from the neighborhood around Technic, Inc., a supplier of chemicals used to plate equipment with metallic layers.

Hazardous materials teams were trying to determine the threat posed by chemicals remaining in the building. Mayor Stephen Laffey said officials worry that some of the chemicals may have combined into a more lethal mixture.
