Feb. 09--Thirty-nine residents were displaced early this morning by a fire in a two-story Northwest Side apartment building that also scorched two adjacent similar structures, officials said.
The 2-11 alarm blaze broke out about 4:20 a.m. in the second floor rear of a building in the 4700 block of North Central Park Avenue in the Albany Park neighborhood and was put out within 20 minutes, fire officials said. It also scorched two nearby buildings.
The American Red Cross of Greater Chicago helped 11 of the 39 people displaced by the fire in finding shelter after the fire, said Gerry Holmes, a spokesman for the agency. Fire officials initially had said 18 people were displaced, and Holmes had said 25 people were displaced, but later revised that number.
No one was injured.
Warming buses were called in for the displaced residents.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
