Feb. 28--RICHMOND -- A fire of undetermined origin Tuesday afternoon destroyed a 30- by 40-foot, mostly plastic and fiberglass greenhouse at Madison Central High School.

The main school building was evacuated, although the fire never threatened it, said Richmond Fire Chief Buzzy Campbell.

The fire department was called around 2 p.m. and was on the scene within minutes, Campbell said. The city's fire station on Irvine Street is only blocks away, and the fire was brought under control within five minutes, the chief said.

Firefighters were able to protect another greenhouse next to fire, which suffered only heat damage, Campbell said.

A Kentucky State Police arson investigator will be meeting Wednesday with fire department and school officials to review evidence, including the school's surveillance video, the chief said.
