A collision between a pickup and a private ambulance sent the patient the emergency vehicle was transporting and the medic to the hospital in San Antonio.

July 14--A pickup allegedly crashed into a private ambulance while it was transporting a patient early Saturday, according to San Antonio police.

The wreck occurred at 1:30 a.m. at 5100 Fredericksburg Road on the city's North side.

According to a police department email, witnesses said the pickup crashed into the rear of the ambulance when the ambulance was standing at the intersection of Fredericksburg and Callaghan Roads, waiting at a red light.

Witnesses said the truck's driver, 46-year-old Javier Martinez-Acosta, was driving fast.

A driver and a medic were also inside the ambulance at the time of the crash. The patient "did not complain of any injuries related to the accident," according to police. The medic and patient were taken to University Hospital.

Martinez-Acosta was also taken to University Hospital with minor injuries.

It was not known Saturday afternoon what, if any charges would be filed in the case.
