Fort Worth firefighters rescued a man from an early morning duplex fire Wednesday.
Crews were called to the 2100 block of Andrews Avenue at 3:23 for dwelling fire.
Firefighters found heavy smoke and fire coming from the one-story duplex and began fire attack and search efforts when people outside the home said someone was trapped inside.
"During a search, an approximately 70-year-old male was located in a bedroom in the rear of the structure and was rescued through a window," Lt. Kyle Falkner said.
The man was treated by firefighters and a Medstar crews for smoke inhalation and then transported to the hospital.
A woman who was able to escape the home was treated and released at the scene.
Falkner said the fact that the man slept with his bedroom door closed lead to his survival.
"The bedroom door suffered heavy damage in the fire but was able hold back the advancing flames until fire crews arrived," Falkner said.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire that displaced six residents.
