Firehouse.com Grants Contributor Brian Vickers hosts a roundtable chat with several people who have been successful at obtaining Assistance to Firefighters (AFG) program awards in the past.
Guests include: Firefighter Ken Gilliam, of the St. Paul, MN, Fire Department; Assistant Chief Brian Jeffries, of W. R. Castle Fire & Rescue in Kentucky; and Chief Bert Sabo, from Ventnor City, NJ, Fire Department.
The three discuss their experiences with the application process -- from gathering the necesary data and background to the best ways to write the applications up. They talk about their past applications for firefighting tools, SCBA, turnout gear, apparatus and even how excessive overtime can help a department win a SAFER grant.
This year's program closes on May 20, so tune into this podcast for some assistance and advice on how to bring home the federal dollars.
