The NY Fire Safety Institute to Kick-Off Fire Prevention Week with Fire Extinguisher Training at Rockefeller Center's Fire Safety Expo

Oct. 3, 2008

Albany, NY, October 3, 2008 - The NY Fire Safety Institute will debut their new BullEx® BullsEye™ extinguisher training system during Fire Prevention Week as part of the Fire Safety Expo being held at 30 Rockefeller Plaza on Monday, October 6th from 11am - 2pm. The public is encouraged to stop by to try their hand at extinguisher training and receive a potentially life-saving lesson. Visit the New York City Fire Department's website for more information regarding the Fire Safety Expo

Estimates indicate that only one percent of the U.S. population has been trained on the proper use of a fire extinguisher; however, trained individuals are 250 percent more effective when using an extinguisher, according to research by the National Association of Fire Equipment Distributors.

The newly acquired BullEx BullsEye laser-driven training simulator will enable The NY Fire Safety Institute to offer clean, safe and cost effective training to the businesses of New York City, where conventional hands-on training has not been possible before. Prior to this new technology - the only method of conducting hands-on fire extinguisher training has been to ignite diesel fuel in a barrel for trainees to attempt to extinguish with dry chemical fire extinguishers.

BullsEye utilizes realistic, self-generating digital flames that respond automatically to a specialized training extinguisher which emits a conical laser beam and sound effects to replicate a dry chemical extinguisher. The simulator is designed to provide realistic hands-on training with a lessened environmental impact. Training can now take place completely indoors: in an office, a conference room, a stairwell - virtually anywhere. And because the training extinguisher is laser-driven, there are no recharge costs or clean-up costs associated with the training.

"We are excited to offer this training course to the business men and women of New York City," said Jim Bullock, President of The NY Fire Safety Institute. "Every building in the city is equipped with fire extinguishers, and it is an OSHA requirement that employees know how to use them. Through this course offering, we intend to greatly improve the fire safety in New York City." "By providing hands-on training, The NY Fire Safety Institute will be able to significantly improve trainee proficiency in putting out a wide variety of fires," said Ryan O'Donnell, BullEx's Chief Executive Officer. "Fire extinguisher training is a vital component of any organization's overall approach to employee and workplace safety, be it a hospital, hotel, retail outlet or manufacturing operation."
