The lawsuit by former Cincinnati fire chief against the city for wrongful termination may proceed in federal court, a judge ruled last week.
Michael Washington, who was fired over a year ago, was never given prior notice, according to Fox19.
The suit claims city officials violated the charter when they dismissed him.
Washington “has validly pleaded claims for state and federal due process violations, defamation and entitlement to declaratory relief," U.S. District Court Judge Douglas Cole wrote in his decision.
The former chief is asking for punitive damages, back pay and lost benefits.
