The International Code Council (ICC) and the IAFC have announced that Peg Paul, President of Peg Paul and Associates (PPA), is the recipient of the 2025 Excellence in Fire and Life Safety Award. The award honors individuals who have dedicated themselves to saving lives and property through strong leadership in fire prevention practices and support of model building and fire codes.

Paul began her career in fire safety in 1992, developing a national consumer education program in collaboration with the water heater industry to prevent injuries and deaths caused by tap water scald burns and flammable vapor ignition. In 1997, she became the communications manager for the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition (HFSC), working to increase awareness about the life-saving benefits of home fire sprinklers.

In 2000, she founded PPA, a marketing communications agency specializing in developing and implementing multi-integrated information and education campaigns. PPA has established a niche in public safety promotion and has been retained for this purpose by several leading safety advocacy organizations. In addition to HFSC, PPA works with the National Fire Protection Association, Northern Illinois Fire Sprinkler Advisory Board, Vision 20/20, MPHI Sound Off Smoke Alarm program, Common Voices and others.

Paul serves on the board of the IAFC Fire and Life Safety Section (FLSS), NFPA Research Foundation and is a past board member of The Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors.

According to Chief Greg Rogers, FLSS Chair, “For more than three decades, Peg has worked on saving lives through fire safety education and advocacy. The progress she has helped the industry make in home fire sprinkler awareness is a testament to the dedication of countless partners and champions in the fire service. She helps the Fire and Life Safety Section and all fire and life safety advocates working towards a future where not a single life is lost to preventable home fires.”
