Port Arthur, TX, Fire Chief Out as City 'Not Happy' with Department's Direction

Fire Chief Greg Benson, who has led the department for three years, said the action came without warning.

Port Arthur has a new fire chief.

Without warning, Chief Greg Benson said he was fired Thursday by the city manager.

Benson, who's been chief for the past three years, told 12 News that City Manager Ron Burton wasn't happy with the direction the department was headed.

He was not given any specific issues or reasons.

Deputy Chief Robert Havens has been named to the position effective immediately.
