Mississippi Volunteer Firefighter Dies On-Duty

Death is due to natural causes

A Beaumont, Mississippi firefighter has died in the line of duty according to the U.S. Fire Administration.

Franklin Eubanks, a ten-year member and Assistant Chief of the Arlington Volunteer Fire Department, collapsed while performing fire suppression operations at a grass fire near Byrd Road on October 25.

The 47 year-old was transported to a hospital where he died. Eubanks' precise cause of death has not been determined since no autopsy was requested; however, the Hattiesburg American reports that a heart attack was the likely cause.

Beaumont Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Joshua Cornihan said the funeral service at Arlington Baptist was held on October 28. Transport on a fire engine led to burial at the Lott Cemetery.

Eubanks is survived by his wife Audrey, a son, two daughters, two grandchildren, and eight siblings.
