A volunteer firefighter from a small town in western Missouri has died from injuries he sustained in an apparatus wreck.
The El Dorado Springs Volunteer Fire Department announced on its Facebook page that firefighter Russ Hayes, 62, was driving a pumper to an annual test on Wednesday when the vehicle crashed and reportedly flipped.
The 42-year veteran of the El Dorado department died Thursday from what the department called "serious" injuries.
"This is a hard time for the Hayes family, the Fire Department and our Community, but together with faith and God’s mercy we will carry on Russ Hayes’ memory and Spirit of Service to our Community," Fire Chief Bob Floyd wrote in the post.
Firefighter Hayes leaves behind his wife Susan, two sons and three grandchildren.
