CA FF Succumbs to Injuries Weeks after Being Struck

A Barstow firefighter who was struck operating at an accident scene in December has succumbed to his injuries.

Barstow Fire Protection District Engineer David Spink succumbed to his injuries after being struck while operating at a vehicle accident on Dec. 5, 2021.

Barstow firefighters were working at an accident scene on Interstate 15 when Spink was struck by a vehicle traveling at highway speeds and was then transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center.

According to a press release by the Barstow Fire Protection District, Spink passed away Sunday, after a courageous battle.

Spink began his career in 1990 with the Barstow Fire Department as a paid-call firefighter before becoming full-time in 1993. In 1999 he promoted to engineer and worked at both stations while serving.
