Harrison firefighter Vincent Doffont died from an apparent medical episode following a training evolution Saturday.
Earlier in the day Doffont, 37, had been assisting newer members with a roof ventilation training, Harrison Fire Department Deputy Chief Henry Richard told NJ.com.
After returning to the station, Doffont was taking a shower when department members “heard rustling around and knew something was not right,” Richard told the newspaper. “They found him unconscious. He had suffered some type of medical episode.”
Doffont died at University Hospital in Newark.
He joined the fire department in 2017.
“With the most profound sadness we must announce the passing of active firefighter Vincent Doffont Badge #64,” the department shared in statement on their Facebook page. “Prior to joining the HFD Vinny was a patrolman for Harrison police. He also served with the Hudson County sheriff department.”
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as an Infantry Man.
